It has been said that the artwork of children might be the purest form of art. Come see for yourself as we celebrate Youth Art Month! Expressed through line and shape, color and texture, paint and pencil, the imagination and creative energy of the young artist is boundless. The walls of Gallery 280 will pulsate with the creations of students in grades K-12 in the Portsmouth public school system. Family, friends, and fans are invited to meet the young artists and their visual arts teachers at a reception in their honor on Tuesday, March 13 from 3:30-5:00 p.m.

April 3- May 11: Families First 2009 Calendar Exhibit

This 12th annual showcase of family-friendly works of art created by local artists is sponsored by Families First Health and Support Center. Thirteen pieces will be selected by jury for reproduction in the 2009 Families First Calendar. Sales of this popular calendar raise funds to support Families First, a private non-profit organization that provides a broad range of health and support services to individuals and families, regardless of ability to pay. The works of art selected for the calendar will be announced at a gala opening reception on Tuesday, April 8, 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

As you enjoy looking at the exhibit, challenge your powers of observation with a visual scavenger hunt. Then cast a ballot for your favorite work of art. Which one do you like best? The top three “Children’s Choices” will receive honorable mention in the 2009 Families First Calendar.
