Science Classes

Junior Science Class: The Great Outdoors

Thursdays, May 4 - June 8
10-10:45am

This spring, junior scientists, ages 3.5-5, will be learning all about nature – from bugs to flowers to rocks and beyond! We’ll explore this great planet we live on with interactive experiments, theme-inspired crafts, exciting demonstrations, and more! These classes run for 6 weeks. Classes are $60 for Members and $70 for Non-members. Pre-registration is required. These classes run for 6 weeks with one week off for Thanksgiving. WEATHER CANCELLATION POLICY: Our Early Learning classes will NOT be held if Dover public schools are closed or have a delayed opening. Please check WMUR-TV, WOKQ-FM, WERZ-FM or WTSN-AM for school closing information before leaving for the museum on inclement weather days.

INCLUSIVE ART PROGRAM

We All Belong: Art and Friendship Go Hand in Hand

Wednesdays, May 3, 10, 17 & 24, 4-5:30pm

This fun and interactive art program is for adults who are learning English as a second language, refugees or immigrants and their children, or Museum Member adults and children. Join us at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire, a warm, inclusive community, to engage in meaningful, out-of-school arts learning experiences. Play, create, express yourself, share your ideas and form new friendships. Museum staff and visiting artists will lead participants in activities that everyone can do including painting, drawing, collage, bead-making, dream-catchers, weaving, handprints and more.

Participation in this program is FREE thanks to support from the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts and a private donor.

The Children's Museum of NH offers summer camps for two different age groups – for children ages 4-6 and 7-11. Camp size is limited to 12 students per program.

Registration will close one week before each camp begins.


Discovery Camps

5-Day Camps for ages 7-11

Mondays–Fridays, 9:15am–1pm
Fee: $170/camp for Members & $190/camp for Non-members
Our Discovery Camps are for kids ages 7-11. These camps focus on bringing art and science right to kids’ fingertips, and explore a wide variety of topics with hands-on STEAM activities and exploration. Choose between the following camps:


Summer 5-Day Discovery Camp: ART MASTER CLASS

Monday, July 24 - Friday, July 28
9:15am-1pm

What makes this camp a master class? Why, learning from the best of course! Kids ages 7-11 will have several local artists join them and teach them their techniques and help campers make their own. This class will end with a special gallery show for family and friends.

Summer 5-Day Discovery Camp: ADVENTURES IN CHEMISTRY

Monday, July 31 - Friday, August 4
9:15am-1pm

Want to get hands-on with cool chemistry experiments? It’s easier than you think! In this camp, for kids ages 7-11, we’ll check out the different chemical reactions that happen around us all day, from baking to bath bombs, slime to cabbage juice! Work with your fellow campers to create awesome experiments, and get some experience with the STEAM Lab’s science equipment, including our FLoid Imaging System microscopes!

Summer 5-Day Discovery Camp: ECO-EXPLORERS

Monday, August 14 - Friday, August 18
9:15am-1pm

The natural world is full of wonders to explore, even in your own backyard! Have you ever watched a spider spin a web, or wondered if animals have super powers? Or wondered what it feels like to be a deer or coyote searching for food? This camp, for kids ages 7-11, will introduce participants to animal communication and adaptations, as well as local plants, animals, and ecosystems through nature exploration, games, and art projects. We’ll be exploring outside, and creating our own wild beasts to take home!

Summer 5-Day Discovery Camp: CARDBOARD ENGINEERS

Monday, August 21 - Friday, August 25
9:15am-1pm

What can you make out of ordinary cardboard? In this camp, we’re going to find out! Utilizing the engineering/design process, kids ages 7-11 will work on taking a building idea and bringing it to fruition with cardboard, imagination, and lots and lots of tape! Do you want to build a giant unicorn? Maybe a spaceship? We’ll work in teams to make something amazing, and then display our creations at this year’s Dover Mini Maker Faire!

Mini Camps

3-Day Camps for Ages 4-6

Tuesdays–Thursdays, 9:15am-Noon
Fee: $85/mini-camp for Members & $95/mini-camp for Non-members
This is a great first summer camp experience for children ages 4-6. Each mini-camp features exclusive time interacting with museum exhibits, hands on activities, crafts, stories and a snack. Children must be 4 years old on the first day of camp and be able to use the bathroom independently. Each mini-camp focuses on hands-on, interactive learning.

3-Day Summer Mini-Camp: CREATURES CREATE

Tuesday, July 25 - Thursday, July 27
9:15am-Noon

Campers ages 4-6 will learn about the many local creatures that live & build along our waterways. Find out how they have adapted to survive in our area. Campers will learn about osprey, beavers, caddis flies & even Native People as they engage in creative hands-on learning each day!

3-Day Summer Mini Junior Science Camp: SCIENCE ART

Tuesday, August 1 - Thursday, August 3
9:15am-Noon

If you have a mini scientist or artist at home – or both – this camp will be perfect for them! Junior Scientists, ages 4-6, will explore colors, shapes, textures and more by doing hands-on interactive experiments, listening to stories, making science inspired art projects, and of course making a super fun mess!

3-Day Summer Mini-Camp: S.T.E.A.M. STORIES

Tuesday, August 15 - Thursday, August 17
9:15am-Noon

Even our youngest visitors ages 4-6 can explore S.T.E.A.M. (Science / Technology / Engineering / Arts / Math)! Do you have a young scientist at home that also loves books? This is the perfect camp! We’ll read wonderful picture books and then do experiments, activities, and crafts that relate. We’ll explore topics from weather to our five senses to the stars!

3-Day Summer Mini-Camp: YES, YOU ARE AN ARTIST!

Tuesday, August 22 - Thursday, August 24
9:15am-Noon

This camp is designed to encourage the artist that exists within each camper! Using a variety of materials, each child, ages 4-6, will engage in the process of creating sculptures, wearable art and much more. Campers will explore their creative potential and go home with some fabulous works of art! End the session with a mini art show for all to attend!
