Celebrating 35 Years!

The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire is celebrating its 35th birthday this year! Over the last 35 years (25 in Portsmouth and 10 in Dover) the museum has been visited by an entire generation of families. Some museum staff members remember visiting the museum as children themselves, and now enjoy bringing their children, nieces or nephews to discover the hands-on exhibits. In addition to shaping a generation of curious thinkers, the non-profit museum consistently brings 1.8 to 2.3 million dollars of positive economic impact to the area, every year. And the museum continues to grow.

See what we have planned!

Dover Ducky Derby
Saturday, September 22, 1pm

The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire and SEED (Seacoast Educational Endowment for Dover) have teamed up for the first annual Dover Ducky Derby! The derby is in conjunction with the Museum’s 35th Anniversary Free Family Fun Day – a day of hands-on activities both inside and outside the museum, performances and mini-workshops representing the museum’s “greatest hits” over the past 35 years. Free “ducky” activities will include making your own duck squawkers, “What sinks & floats?” science experiments, and a “Do Like a Duck Does!” StoryWalk. Adopted rubber ducks will launch from Washington Street bridge at 1pm. Prizes will be awarded to the first five ducks who finish the race.  Adopt a duck for the race online or in person at the museum: $5 for one duck, $50 for a gaggle of 12 ducks, or $100 for a flock of 50 ducks.

Gallery 6: 2018 summer exhibition & art raffle
35 Friends: 35 Years of Art & Creativity!
On view through September 29, 2018

Did you know that the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire was founded 35 years ago? 35 years means we’ve enjoyed seeing a lot of great art, not only created by our visitors, but also by professional artists who have generously shown their work here! Gallery 6 is celebrating the museum’s long history of creative collaboration with a special summer exhibition and raffle. 35 artists from around New England, who have helped inspire and shape the museum with their creativity, have donated works of art that will be on view all summer. And it gets better! You can buy raffle tickets for a chance to win your favorite work of art the next time you visit. A sheet of 20 raffle tickets only costs $5, or you can get 5 sheets for $20. As you go around with your kids to pick your favorites, it’s a great opportunity to not only take a stroll down memory lane, but to also talk about art! We will be pulling the winning tickets on Sunday, September 30 at 2pm. You don’t have to be present to win. You will have 2 weeks after the winners are announced to pick up the artwork. Raffle tickets can only be purchased at the front desk of the museum. All proceeds raised will fund new and enhanced exhibits. Gallery 6 is supported by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts, Georgia-Pacific, and the Fuller Foundation.
